$50Your Voice Matters Now More Than Ever!
Register now for Power in the Pulpit, an online weekend retreat for Deacons and Lay Preachers in Province IV mentored by master preachers. During the weekend, participants will:
- Hear what makes for powerful preaching in today’s conflicted environment
- Participate in small mentored peer preaching groups
- Meet and network with your Province IV peers
- Participate in our innovative and joyful online worship
For those dedicated to refining their skills, this preaching weekend will re-visit the core elements of exegesis, sermon structure and spoken delivery from the vantage point of the deacon and the lay preacher. The core of the program will be small preaching groups where every participant will workshop a sermon to constructive feedback with fellow preachers. Lay preachers and deacons will participate in separate feedback groups. Each day’s session will open and close with worship.
The plenary speakers will address topics of direct relevance to you as deacons and preachers:
- The Rev. Dr. Stephen Smith, who served for many years with Episcopal Preaching Foundation, will review the process of exegesis and crafting the sermon outline
- Deacon Christian Harvey, a leading community organizer in the Anglican Diocese of Toronto, will illuminate the power of diaconal preaching to invite action in the community
- Christine Parton Burkett, Lecturing Fellow in Speech at Duke Divinity School, gives a roadmap to turbocharging your public speaking and personal presentation style
- Dr. Ryan Bonfiglio, Assistant Professor of Old Testament at Candler School of Theology, shines a spotlight on poverty as a dominant theme in scripture
