Welcome to the Episcopal Preaching Foundation!
For 28 years the mission of the Episcopal Preaching Foundation (EPF) has been to improve, support, and enhance preaching in the Episcopal Church. Under the leadership of its founder, economist and layman Dr. A. Gary Shilling, and the Board of Directors, the Foundation has become a leading resource for lay and ordained preachers in the Episcopal Church and its ecumenical partners. Through two annual conferences, by providing leadership and resources for diocesan conferences, and through new programs to work with preachers in small groups and individually, EPF is honored to be fulfilling its vital mission.
The signature program of the Episcopal Preaching Foundation is the annual event for Episcopal seminarians, the “Preaching Excellence Program” (PEP). Held at the end of May each year PEP gathers seminarians, homiletics professors and rectors for a week of lectures, worship, workshops and small groups in which the students present sermons for discussion and feedback. Beginning in 2014, thanks to a generous grant from the Robertson Foundation, “PEP II” gathered recently ordained priests for a similar experience. Over the years PEP has welcomed the leading preachers and preaching professors in the Anglican Communion and its partners to provide leadership for PEP, and more than 1,500 priests of the Episcopal Church, including the Most Reverend Katharine Jefferts Schori, have participated. In the last five years an additional 2,000 priests, deacons and lay preachers have participated in other conferences of the Episcopal Preaching Foundation at the national and diocesan level.
