PREACHING PRACTICE FOR EPISCOPAL DEACONS

A Weekend Preaching Conference Designed to Fit Your Schedule

The canon defining the vocational deacon’s role as prophet, interpreter and catalyst for social change implies a more challenging message from the pulpit. Beyond simply providing relief for the priest or filling in for absent clergy the deacon can lift up the range of sermons the congregation will hear, adding the perspective of the Church at work in the world.

Partnering with the Episcopal Preaching Foundation (“EPF”) and the AED, the deacons of Province VIII have designed a memorable event that promises to be economical on your time and your pocket book, while delivering a very tangible boost to your preaching skills.
Reflecting the responses to our February survey, this weekend conference will focus on particularly:

    • Exegesis and scriptural interpretation
    • Preparation and sermon structure
    • The deacon’s prophetic voice
    • Preaching practice: Small moderated preaching groups of 4 or 5 meet multiple times where you will preach to constructive feedback.

The Zoom schedule includes generous downtime between sessions to counter Zoom fatigue.
